WHAT IS

Positive Intelligence Coaching

What is Positive Intelligence and what is coaching based on Positive Intelligence (PQ, Positive Intelligence Quotient)?

Positive Intelligence (PQ) is a mental fitness program, developed by Shirzad Chamine. The basic premise in PQ is that any life circumstance can be turned into a gift or opportunity. Being laid off, breaking up a long-term relationship, being cheated on, not getting that dream job, health concerns… All very painful in the short term, but if we learn to see the opportunity and the gift that lies hidden in these experiences, we make our life so much richer, open to new opportunities and adventures and we recover much faster: we build resilience. We become our own alchemists.

Imagine yourself able to remain calm, clear headed, stress-free, and positive even in the midst of handling work and life’s greatest challenges. What becomes possible for you, in achievement, in peace of mind and wellness, and in your relationships?

What is mental fitness?

Mental fitness is your state of mental wellbeing — it represents your ability to make decisions, your awareness, and how you respond to life’s challenges. It involves developing core psychological resources and becoming aware of how you think, behave, and feel.

If you’re not physically fit, you’ll feel physical stress as you climb a steep hill. If you’re not mentally fit, you’ll feel mental stress, such as anxiety, frustration, or unhappiness, when faced with life’s challenges. Conversely, when you’re mentally fit, you lean into challenges and can navigate change and stress, no matter what day-to-day life presents.

The difference between mental health and mental fitness

Mental health and mental fitness are related but distinct concepts. Mental health refers to a person’s overall psychological and emotional wellbeing. It includes their ability to cope with stress, manage their emotions, and maintain healthy relationships.

On the other hand, mental fitness refers to a person’s ability to use their cognitive and emotional resources to handle the challenges of daily life. It is similar to physical fitness, which is the ability to use one’s physical resources to perform physical tasks. Mental fitness involves mindfulness, meditation, positive thinking, and self-reflection to help improve mental wellbeing. Being mentally fit can help you cope with certain mental health challenges.

“Mental health is the absence of mental illness, whereas mental fitness is the presence of positive mental habits regardless of whether you have a mental illness or not. Mental health is a state of mind, while mental fitness is the strength of mind that allows individuals to handle the ups and downs of life with grace, ease, and confidence,” says Chamine.

In Positive Intelligence we learn about our Saboteurs and about our Sages

What are Saboteurs? We all have them, and they were formed in our childhood as coping mechanisms. At the beginning of our journey together, we will start with an assessment of your personal Saboteurs. Keep in mind that a Saboteur assessment is not a personality test, but it shows us our general tendencies in coping with life situations.

There are 10 Saboteurs, of which the number 1 is the Judge, which we all have: Judge of self, others and circumstances. The other 9 are the Avoider, the Pleaser, the Hyper-Achiever, the Hyper-Vigilant, the Victim, the Controller, the Stickler, the Restless and the Hyper-Rational.

Lifelong Applications

Building mental fitness means strengthening three core mental muscles. Developing these muscles results in an array of improvements in performance, relationships, and wellbeing.

Positive Intelligence is an operating system with many applications. The PQ Program helps you develop your three core mental muscles over the course of just six weeks.

Six-Week Foundation

In 6 weeks you will build your foundation of mental fitness by strengthening these three critical mental muscles to shift the balance of power from your inner Saboteurs (your negative self) to your inner Sage (your positive self). These three core muscles are at the root of mental fitness:

  • 1. Saboteur Interceptor Muscle (intercept your inner Saboteur at play)
  • 2. Self-Command Muscle (manage your mind, choose your response wisely)
  • 3. Sage Muscle (develop your ability to choose your responses and stay in Sage mode longer and longer)

So how does coaching using the PQ operating system work for my challenges?

When I coach you using the PQ principles and operating system we use a common language and the tools you have learned during the 6-week foundation building. The tools you have learned can be used in any area of your life: work, career, relationships, working with difficult people, stress management, conflict resolution, change management, self-actualization, resilience, happiness, health and wellness, parenting, decision making…. The list goes on.

I have helped clients become unstuck in job situations, unhappy relationships, create order where there is internal chaos and clutter, giving them back a sense of control over their own minds (our thoughts are often the number one source for stress creation….), dealing with difficult people, lose weight, helping clients find their North Star, their purpose in life, etc.
